The Omaha Public Power District (OPPD) is transporting a 225-megawatt combustion turbine to Turtle Creek Station (TCS) in Sarpy County. The turbine is about 35 feet long and weighs around 560,000 pounds. It is part of an expansion project at the natural gas-powered plant.
The turbine was built in Berlin, Germany, over 20 months. It traveled by barge to Houston, then by rail to Gretna, Nebraska.
The final five-mile move to TCS is scheduled to start overnight on Sunday, November 9, 2025, at 10 p.m. and is expected to finish before 6 a.m. on Monday, November 10. The transport will move at about five miles per hour. Rolling road closures and coordination with law enforcement will help reduce public disruption.
