Omaha Residents Invited to Support Neighbors in Need at 2026 Heat the Streets Run & Walk for Warmth

Omaha Public Power District (OPPD) and Metropolitan Utilities District (M.U.D.) will hold the 19th annual Heat the Streets Run & Walk for Warmth on March 7, 2026, at Zone 6 in Aksarben Village, Omaha. Registration opens on Black Friday. The event raises funds to help residents with utility bills during winter and throughout the year.

This year’s event is co-chaired by Mark and Bridget Mendenhall from M.U.D. and Amanda and Jason Bogner from OPPD. The co-chairs will attend the Lights of Aksarben: Making Spirits Bright event on November 28, 2025, at Stinson Park. They will promote the run and take part in the tree lighting ceremony. The kickoff will include Santa visits, live music, crafts, and registration or donation opportunities.

Demand for utility assistance remains high as federal support has decreased. From October 2024 to September 2025, M.U.D.’s Home Fund gave $281,294 to 704 households. OPPD’s Energy Assistance Program provided $355,654 to 930 households. The 2025 Heat the Streets event raised $226,000 and helped over 580 households.
