Competency review hearing scheduled for Bellevue Sonic shooter

PAPILLION, Neb. (WOWT) – On Monday, the man who pled guilty in a death penalty case in the Omaha metro will have another competency review hearing.

In 2022, Roberto Carlos Silva Jr. pleaded guilty to 15 felony charges connected to the killing of two people in a Bellevue Sonic Drive-In two years prior.

Silva is still being treated at the Lincoln Regional Center. For years, clinical psychiatrists have been working to restore his competency.

Doctors believe, with the right treatment, he’ll be able to understand the court process and participate in his own defense so he can face the death penalty…
