Dozens of cattle rescued after trailer carrying them overturns in Nebraska

When a cattle truck collided with a pick-up truck in Douglas County, Neb., a handful of the 36 cows the cattle truck was transporting broke loose.

Sharing details of the incident from earlier this year, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office in Omaha explained how they intervened and expressed gratitude for all the partner organizations that came in to help with the situation.

“At 0739hrs, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Blair High Rd and Bennington Rd,” the Sheriff’s Office wrote on X at the time, alongside photos of the collision and of the cows in question. “A cattle truck carrying 36 head of cattle collided with a pick-up truck in the intersection. No injuries were reported by either driver. The cattle trailer overturned and came to rest just south of the intersection. Several cows were able to exit the trailer while the others remained trapped inside. Crews were able to extricate the remaining cows and transfer them into another trailer.”

The post continued, “Huge Thank You to the @NEHumaneSociety for helping with the cattle. We would also like to thank our partners who assisted at the scene in subzero temperatures.”

The freezing temps added to the mission’s difficulty, as the rescuers had to contend with strong and very cold winds, as well as ice on the roads as the incident unfolded, per the Bennington Herald
