University of Nebraska Regent Elizabeth O’Connor resigns after DUI charge

University of Nebraska Regent Elizabeth O’Connor announced she’ll resign from her position after being accused of causing a crash while drunk in Omaha.

State lawmakers and others have called on her to resign after Douglas County prosecutors charged O’Connor in July 2025 with driving under the influence with serious bodily injury, a felony, in relation to a crash on May 21, 2025, near North 63rd and Blondo streets in Omaha, according to court documents.

O’Connor, a registered Democrat, said in a statement that she chose to remain on the Board of Regents after charges were filed to continue serving District Four, which makes up much of eastern Douglas County…
