Fireworks Show Ends Early in Omaha After Person Enters Launch Zone

The annual New Year’s Eve fireworks show in downtown Omaha ended early after an individual entered the designated launch area, creating a safety hazard, according to city officials.

In a press release, the Omaha Mayor’s Office said a man emerged near the bank of the Missouri River east of downtown, close to where fireworks were being launched. The individual entered the firing zone, prompting operators to ask him to leave.

Officials said the man fled the area but tripped over a cord, which disabled the remaining fireworks system. As a result, the show ended roughly halfway through its planned nine-minute program…
