Dive Brief:
- SpartanNash kicked off 2026 by opening the first small-format location under its Hispanic grocery banner Supermercado Nuestra Familia, the company announced Tuesday.
- The nearly 14,000-square-foot location in Omaha, Nebraska, “is strategically situated near community schools and directly on a bus route, offering families convenient access for quick shopping trips before or after school and work,” the press release noted.
- The new location is the sixth under the banner, which has doubled its number of stores in less than a year.
Dive Insight:
While the location is smaller than typical grocery stores, the new Supermercado Nuestra Familia carries a range of grocery essentials, SpartanNash said.
The store features bakery, produce, meat and dairy items, plus center store staples such as traditional spices, a full-service carnicería and an assortment of hot foods in the deli. Customers can also find aguas frescas and horchata that’s prepared daily, as well as fresh-cut produce.
“At nearly 14,000 square feet, this store is designed for speed and convenience, while still offering the authentic products and flavors that feel like home for so many in the community,” SpartanNash Chief Retail Officer Djouma Barry wrote in a LinkedIn post earlier this week. “It’s a format built for today’s families and is a great example of how we continue to evolve to meet our guests where they are.”…
