Neighbors question $9M in public funding for luxury apartments in Dundee redevelopment

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – A developer plans to replace the aging Midtown Plaza shopping center at 46th and California with 223 luxury apartments and 67,000 square feet of retail space, but neighbors are questioning whether taxpayers should contribute $9 million to a project with no affordable housing.

The $110 million Saddle Creek Marketplace development would tower over the Dundee neighborhood, replacing a shopping center that has served as a community hub for years but now shows signs of decline with darkened signs and boarded windows.

Developer Mitch Hohlen previously built The Artisan at 39th, which was also TIF-funded. Studios at that property start at $1,150, and two-bedrooms run up to $2,470 a month. Hohlen said the planned Saddle Creek Marketplace will be similar…
