OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – The Omaha Police Officers Association warned Friday that a police staffing crisis could put the community at risk, but the Omaha Police Department said the situation is not as dire as portrayed.
A social media post Friday morning suggested some neighborhoods could have one officer patrolling next month instead of the usual five to ten. The OPD said that is not the full story.
“I don’t agree with it,” said Executive Deputy Chief Scott Gray.
Department says coverage plan in place
Gray explained that OPD’s 11 recruits have made their bids for shifts but won’t finish training until April 4. That leaves some crews short for a month…
