Heckman named 2026 Iowa STEM Teacher Award winner

(KMAland) — A Council Bluffs Community School District teacher was among those recently recognized for their work in science, technology, engineering, and math education.

Abraham Lincoln High School Physics Teacher and Robotics Coach Justin Heckman was recently named the Southwest STEM Region 2026 Iowa STEM Teacher Award recipient through the Iowa Governor’s STEM Advisory Council. Currently in his 26th year of teaching, Heckman has spent nearly his entire teaching career at Abraham Lincoln High School. Heckman tells KMA News that he was excited to receive the award and highlight the programs the school currently offers.

“I guess I had some inkling that I’d been nominated, but I was pretty excited to win it,” said Heckman. “But I think it’s really a pretty great deal not only for me, but also for my school district. I think it’s great to show off some of the great things that we do here in Council Bluffs Community School District.”…
