Omaha Public Schools planning for $50.6 million shortfall due to state tax formula error

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – Omaha Public Schools has adjusted its budget after receiving updated information from the state reducing its expected shortfall for the coming school year.

In November, the state warned districts that they had been overpaid and to expect those allocation amounts to be made up in the next budget year. At that time, the estimated impact for OPS was at least $61 million, and the district warned taxpayers they would likely need to raise the levy to make up for the state’s TEEOSA miscalculation.
