Today in History – Feb. 21: Civil rights leader, Omaha native assassinated in New York City

NEW YORK (WOWT) – On this day in 1965, religious leader and Omaha native Malcolm X was assassinated in New York City.

He was addressing the Organization of Afro-American Unity, which he founded, at the time of the shooting.

Three members of the Nation of Islam were charged with murder. All three were found guilty and sentenced to 20 years to life in prison…
