OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – Team USA’s silver medal in mixed doubles curling at the Milan Olympics has sparked a wave of interest in the sport, and the Aksarben Curling Club in Omaha is feeling it.
The club runs leagues throughout the week with about 40 people on the ice at a time. Club president Nic Swiercek said the post-Olympic surge is unlike anything the club has seen before.
“Every four years, we get a big wave of interest from people who want to try curling and people who join our club,” Swiercek said. “People think it looks really easy on TV, but realize it’s a lot harder when you actually try it.”…
