OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – The Rev. Jarvis Ellis Sr. is set to become the next pastor of Salem Baptist Church, Nebraska’s largest Black church and a longstanding institution in North Omaha.
Ellis has been serving as pastor at Salem since last August. He said he initially turned down the offer before accepting what he described as a calling.
“So as pastors, we have to be led by the Holy Spirit, right? Not our guts, not our feelings, but by the Holy Spirit,” Ellis said. “I began to sense within prayer, within the Holy Spirit, that the Lord was leading me to do something else.”
From Georgia to Omaha
Originally from Georgia, Ellis’ career in ministry took him to Milwaukee, Wisconsin and to Dayton, Ohio, before leading him to Salem…
