Omaha bars draw customers with events, community as liquor store sales decline

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – As sales at liquor stores decline and people opt to drink less overall, they’re still spending more money out at bars. It’s a trend flagged in new data released by Bank of America this week.

A new game with new rules

At Anna’s Place, a speakeasy in Omaha, owner Devon Mundt said the bar got a rocky start in September 2022.

“We were expecting people to, like, go back to the office and, you know, stop in at your favorite bar for happy hour,” Mundt said.

He quickly discovered people weren’t going for a post-work drink anymore…
