First Alert 6 Weather Day: Two rounds of severe storm potential Friday

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – We’ve made Friday a First Alert 6 Weather Day due to the increased potential for storms and the threat of severe weather.

The first round would likely develop after midnight Thursday night and move in heading into Friday morning. Scattered downpours, lightning and some hail are the main threats from these as they move east through the area. These will be scattered storms so it’s likely that some of us will miss out on rain with these.

Then we’ll be able to clear some, warm and recharge the atmosphere before the next round of storms later that evening. It will be windy with south gusts up to 40 mph possible helping to send our highs into the 70s that afternoon.

The evening storms that develop have the potential for wind gusts, large hail and a tornado or two as they move ESE into the evening. The greatest threat is likely to be in our southeast counties and farther south into Kansas and Missouri.

They’ll move out fairly quickly and the overnight hours will be quiet heading into the weekend…
