Omaha experts warn of local impact from U.S. attacks in Iran

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – Following U.S. attacks in Iran, two Omaha-area experts say local residents should be paying attention to potential ripple effects — including cyberattacks and questions about presidential authority.

“What happened this weekend really could have started a chain of events that we in Omaha should be aware of,” said Gina Ligon, director of the National Counterterrorism Innovation, Technology, and Education Center, known as NCITE, at the University of Nebraska Omaha.

Cyberattack threat

Ligon said Iran poses a specific digital threat to U.S. residents. “Iran is very interested in waging cyberattacks. Specifically on our power grid,” she said.

She urged residents to watch for signs of spam, phishing emails, or threats to private information. “This is how Iran gets into our homes and gets into the United States,” Ligon said…
