OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – A partnership between the Salvation Army and the City of Omaha’s Parks and Recreation Department is placing people experiencing homelessness in paid work maintaining the city’s green spaces — and, for some, leading to full-time employment.
The program, called Way to Work, accepts applicants from the Salvation Army each year. This week, Christopher Alt became one of 28 graduates of this year’s program to begin full-time work with the parks department.
“I came to Omaha not knowing anyone — not knowing anyone, not knowing any of the resources,” Alt said. “That’s why I started with the Salvation Army.”…
