Florence Days parade ends after decades, neighborhood celebration will continue

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – The annual Florence Days celebration will be without one of its major attractions this year. There will be no Florence Days parade — a parade that has made its way down North 30th Street since the 1960s. Organizers say the celebration will go on and shine a light on the history of the neighborhood.

A neighborhood rooted in history

The Florence neighborhood has a rich history dating back before Nebraska was even a territory.

“We are one of the gateway-to-the-west cities with the Omaha Nation. This is their aboriginal land,” an organizer said.

The Florence Mill was built by the Mormons during the winter of 1846, supplying them with lumber and flour as they established Winter Quarters on their way to the Salt Lake Valley…
