Douglas County authorities target sideshows with drone enforcement

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is ramping up enforcement against sideshows — gatherings where people watch cars speed around and swerve in parking lots — after receiving complaints about the behavior every weekend.

Targeted enforcement underway

Over the next few weeks, sheriff’s deputies are conducting targeted enforcement and deploying drones with the Community Action Team to monitor sideshow activity. Deputies say the events are illegal and that their goal is to stop the behavior before someone is injured.

“It’s our intentions here at the Sheriff’s Office to reduce as many of those fatal accidents or fatality accidents as possible and removing the people that are driving in a reckless manner that could contribute to some of the accidents that are happening,” said Jon Kramer of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
