Head-on collision in Cass County sends 2 to the hospital

(Murray) — Two people were injured in a head-on crash in Cass County, Nebraska early Wednesday afternoon.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office says shortly after noon, deputies, along with Cass County EMS, Murray Fire and Rescue, and Plattsmouth Fire and Rescue, responded to 24th Avenue just north of Splitt Drive for a semi truck versus pickup truck injury accident. LifeNet was also requested for air standby.

Authorities say an initial investigation determined that a white 2015 Chevy pickup, driven by 21-year-old Marcus Rightsell of Nebraska City, was northbound on 24th Avenue and was following a side dump semi. The sheriff’s office says a southbound side dump semi, driven by 65-year-old Fredrick Lowry Jr of Omaha, passed the northbound semi before colliding head-on with Rightsell’s vehicle.
