(Council Bluffs) — Law enforcement agencies across Iowa are reinforcing a new hands-free driving law as Distracted Driving Awareness Month approaches.
The Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau is partnering with the Central Iowa Traffic Safety Task Force and law enforcement across the state from April 6th through the 10th to enforce the distracted driving law, which took full effect on January 1st. The project coincides with the national distracted driving enforcement wave occurring from April 6th through the 13th. April is also Distracted Driving Awareness Month. Trooper Ryan Devault is the Public Resource Officer with the Iowa State Patrol’s Council Bluffs post.
“We’ve been enforcing it heavily and April will be no different other than maybe some extra added resources specifically looking for those violations of people that have still chosen to keep that phone in their hand instead of putting it down,” said Devault. “So, it’ll be a month where you see more law enforcement on the road and you’ll maybe see them sitting in parking lots or something like that watching traffic go by.”…
