15-year-old drowns in Elk River near Southwest City, Mo.

NEAR SOUTHWEST CITY, Mo. (KY3) – A 15-year-old boy drowned in the Elk River while swimming Sunday afternoon.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says it happened just after 4:30 p.m. Sunday, north of Southwest City. The boy from Omaha, Nebraska, jumped from a mud bank into the water and then became distressed while swimming and went under.
