Seminole County burn ban remains in effect despite recent rainfall

SANFORD, Fla. — Many neighborhoods saw rain move through the area Saturday night, but officials say one storm is not enough to reverse months of dry conditions.

As a result, Seminole County reinstated its burn ban on June 10 after the county’s Keetch-Byram Drought Index, or KBDI, reached levels considered a high fire risk.

“The burn ban is for seven days consecutively. So not a lot of people are aware of that, that it is at least seven days. So even in that duration of time, if we would have some rain showers, that would not eliminate — terminate the burn ban,” said Christina Diaz, Assistant Chief and Fire Marshal with the Seminole County Fire Department…
