ORLANDO, Fla. — Florida’s “Super Speeder” law went into effect July 1, 2025. It requires drivers to be arrested, taken to jail, and sent to court for a criminal offense if they are accused of driving more than 100 mph or more than 50 mph over the posted speed limit.
According to FHP data, troopers made more than 4,000 arrests statewide under the law in its first 12 months. More than 500 of those arrests were in Orange County.
“In the beginning, a lot of people didn’t know, and they weren’t aware of the law taking effect,” said Trooper Migdalisis Garcia, an assistant public affairs officer for Florida Highway Patrol. “But a year later, we are still making the same arrests. People are still making the same mistakes. It’s completely unacceptable.”…
