Florida’s roadside enforcement has widened. After the state built its reputation on jailing triple-digit offenders under last year’s Super Speeder law, Orange County deputies are now pulling over drivers for the opposite offense: lingering in the left lane.
The campaign, highlighted online by FHP, gives officers grounds to cite motorists on either side of the speed equation, whether they are moving too slowly or overtaking above the posted limit.
The legal basis is Florida Statute 316.081, which bars a driver on a road with two or more same-direction lanes from staying in the far-left lane when they know, or reasonably should know, that a faster vehicle is overtaking from behind. The statute carves out sensible exceptions for passing and preparing to turn left, but a violation nonetheless counts as a moving infraction.
