ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) — Florida prosecutors are asking a judge to reverse a decision allowing suspended Palm Beach County Clerk Mike Caruso to post bond while facing charges of kidnapping and sexually abusing a child.
Prosecutors filed the request Tuesday after Orange County Circuit Judge A. James Craner declined to keep Caruso jailed until trial.
During Friday’s hearing, prosecutors argued Caruso should remain behind bars, saying he was dangerous and the alleged victim’s family was frightened, according to the Miami Herald.
But Craner cited several weaknesses in the state’s case and determined there wasn’t enough evidence to keep Caruso jailed pending trial. He set bond at $160,000 and lifted a restriction barring Caruso from being around children. Caruso remains prohibited from contacting the alleged victim or witnesses…
