Fifteen miles northwest of Orlando, a dirt road cuts through 11 miles of restored wetlands where you never have to leave your car to spot wildlife.

The Lake Apopka Wildlife Drive runs one way from Lust Road to Jones Avenue in Orange County, and it costs nothing to enter.

You can visit Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and federal holidays, trading theme park lines for open marsh and quiet. Orlando’s crowds feel far away here, even though they sit just down the road…
