Florida Highway Patrol: Hiring Event Exposes Critical Shortage

As published by Fox 35 Orlando in March of 2023, the Florida Highway Patrol’s shortages have not effectively kept up with the growth. This resulted in FHP rushing to hire more troopers in Central Florida. Could this growth be the result of the increased number of citizens moving to Florida to get away from the higher cost of living in places like New York and California? It’s possible.

Shortages are affecting local Orlando residents and visitors because this may require someone to wait for hours after an accident has occurred.

As presented by NBC 2 News (WESH), the Florida Highway Patrol’s hiring event represents a two-day hiring event in Orlando to help interested individuals go through a streamlined process to complete the steps on the road to the FHP.

As part of the selection process, applicants will be subject to a series of assessments designed to ensure their suitability for the position of state trooper. These assessments include a polygraph examination, a physical examination, an eye examination, fingerprinting, and a physical abilities test. It is important to note that successful completion of these assessments does not guarantee an immediate appointment to the role, as a comprehensive background investigation is still required along with the hiring process.
