Deltona, FL – A 16-year-old has been arrested following a shooting incident at Dwight Hawkins Park in the City of Deltona, according to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office. The suspect, Anthoney Martinez, born June 10, 2007, was identified and taken into custody after a detailed investigation into the events of January 15.
The investigation revealed that the shooting took place inside an SUV parked at the Dwight Hawkins Park. Martinez, who was seated behind the driver, accidentally discharged the firearm, injuring the victim in the leg. Witnesses, including the victim, corroborated this account to detectives, indicating that the shooting was not intentional.
The quick response of the first deputy on the scene was crucial in providing immediate aid to the victim. The deputy applied a tourniquet to the significant gunshot wound and administered first aid until Deltona Fire Rescue personnel arrived.
