Florida restaurant since 2015 suddenly closes, citing business strategy with hints of a replacement

The popular Florida eatery Slate, known for its high-end dining experience and special occasion ambiance, has unexpectedly closed its doors in late December 2023. Established in 2015, Slate had become a go-to destination for those seeking a luxurious dining experience in Florida, comparable to other renowned establishments like Bern’s Steakhouse in Tampa and Victoria and Albert’s in Orlando.

Slate was distinguished by its modern American cuisine, uniquely prepared in a wood-fired copper oven visible in its open kitchen. The menu was a culinary delight, featuring wood-fired pizzas, a variety of seafood, artisanal pasta, steaks, and fresh salads. The restaurant’s interior design contributed significantly to its allure, boasting high ceilings, an open-concept layout, and a prominent fireplace, creating an inviting and sophisticated atmosphere.

Chef Kevan Ho, the culinary mind behind Slate’s menu, emphasized creating dishes that engage all the senses. In an interview with Immers 3d Magazine, he expressed his ambition to create a multisensory dining experience, where the food appeals not just to the taste but also to the sight, smell, and hearing of the guests.
