Orlando, Florida – Nilda Medina-Veguilla, a 38-year-old resident of Kissimmee, has been sentenced to over two and a half years in federal prison for her involvement in a series of fraudulent activities, including making a false statement on a U.S. passport application, aggravated identity theft, and theft of government property. U.S. District Judge Carlos E. Mendoza also ordered Medina-Veguilla to forfeit $39,088, the total proceeds from her criminal conduct. She had entered a guilty plea on September 7, 2023, admitting to her crimes.
Court documents reveal that Medina-Veguilla, a U.S. citizen born in Puerto Rico, engaged in illegal activities dating back to 2005, when she was charged with counterfeiting and illegal appropriation by Puerto Rican authorities. Following a warrant for her arrest issued in 2008, she relocated to the continental U.S. and assumed the identity of “N.T.D.,” an identity theft victim, to evade law enforcement and perpetuate her fraudulent activities.
