Montverde, FL’s Skyler Franklin Shines at Jamaica U20 Track and Field Championships

Skyler Franklin, a Florida-based sprinter, impressed at the recent 2024 Jamaica National Senior and Junior Championships in Kingston on Sunday. The Class of 2026 student-athlete from Montverde Academy in Florida won the U20 title in the 400m and then finished second in the 200m.

The 16-year-old captured the win in the 400m with a time of 51.99 seconds, comfortably defeating the field.

Abigail Campbell of Hydel High School finished second with 53.42 seconds, and Shanque Williams of St Elizabeth Technical High took third with a time of 53.92 seconds.

Skyler Franklin then returned a little over two hours later to take second in the 200m, clocking in at 23.16 seconds (0.4m/s) behind event winner Shanoya Douglas of Muschett High, who ran 22.59 seconds for the victory.

With the national trials now over, Franklin will now return to Florida this week to continue her preparations for the World Athletics U20 Championships in Cali, Colombia, which will be held from August 27-31.

This will be the first time that Lima, Peru, hosts a World Athletics Series event.
