Osceola County, Florida, was named after the renowned Seminole leader. In the late 1900s, the area became a transportation center for the railroad and riverboats. The county encompasses roughly 1500 square miles and includes St. Cloud which was incorporated in 1911.
It is said that the largest sugar mill in the country operated on the land now known as St. Cloud. Its nickname, however, is “Soldier City” due to Mount Peace Cemetary where more than 400 Union soldiers were laid to rest.
Last week, a chilling event unfolded in Osceola County. A father’s normal morning routine of driving his daughter to the school bus was tragically interrupted. The St. Cloud resident, whose home is on Settlers Trail Road, had situated the school girl in the car and grabbed a plastic cup to put in the trash can before they left the driveway.
It was then that two unknown assailants, wearing masks, viciously attacked him while his daughter watched from the car. He screamed for her to get in the house. She avoided injury.
