Dart Industries, a well-established consumer products manufacturer in Orlando, Florida, is set to close one of its facilities, potentially leading to the loss of 145 jobs. The closure, detailed in a WARN letter marks the end of operations at the plant located on South Orange Blossom Trail, with layoffs expected to take place by December 31, 2024.
The decision comes as part of a broader restructuring effort by Dart Industries, known for producing popular products like Tupperware and Wilsonart. The company, which employs around 10,000 people nationwide.
The letter outlining the closure did not rule out the possibility of job offers from a potential buyer of the plant’s assets, though details remain unclear. However, employees affected by the shutdown have been informed that they do not have bumping rights, meaning they cannot transfer to other positions within the company.
This announcement is the latest in a series of mixed developments for Florida’s manufacturing sector. While some companies have expanded, such as Aura Aero Inc. creating 1,000 new jobs, others have faced closures, like the Florida plant that built Aviara Boats earlier this year.
