Orlando, Florida – According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Middle District of Florida, in a recent federal court decision, U.S. District Judge Wendy W. Berger sentenced 38-year-old Giovanny Rivera-Sanchez of Kissimmee to 57 months in federal prison for possessing a firearm as a convicted felon. The sentencing, which took place on Monday, also included the forfeiture of a Glock 22 .40 caliber pistol, which was used in the commission of the crime. Rivera-Sanchez had pleaded guilty to the charges on August 21, 2024.
The case stems from an incident on March 25, 2022, when Rivera-Sanchez was under federal supervised release. During this period, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at his residence as part of a routine check. Upon searching the premises, officers discovered the loaded firearm along with twelve rounds of ammunition. During the investigation, Rivera-Sanchez admitted to knowing the firearm was in his residence, despite his prior felony convictions that explicitly prohibited him from owning or handling firearms and ammunition.
