Orlando residents should expect an increase in rain chances heading into the afternoon and evening, with a lingering possibility of thunderstorms as a weak low-pressure area pulls a cold front through the area tonight. The National Weather Service Melbourne, FL, highlights, in a statement obtained by the forecast discussion, the anticipation of a band of rain with isolated embedded thunderstorms possible, especially north of a line from Lake Kissimmee to Melbourne. Though the instability is minimal, the forecast suggests a 10-20% chance of thunderstorms.

Temperatures today will continue warming, rising to highs as warm as the low to mid-80s near and south of Orlando. Following the front, the area is expected to experience below-normal temperatures, with “coldest temps this week forecast into Thursday night,” according to the National Weather Service. Northwest of I-4, lows may be observed in the mid to upper 30s, while most of east central Florida will experience temperatures in the 40s. Wind chill values come Friday morning and will be in the 30s to low 40s, creating a brisk start to the day.

Boaters should be prepared for less-than-ideal conditions on the water as the front brings rain and gusty southwest winds up to 15-20 knots. A Small Craft Advisory will go into effect overnight for the offshore waters of Volusia and Brevard County, expanding to additional waters Thursday morning through Friday evening.
