Leesburg man wanted on warrant hides from deputies trying to take him into custody

A Leesburg man was arrested in his home this past week on a warrant charging him with choking and punching a woman in February.

On Feb. 18, a deputy with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office met with a female victim at an undisclosed Lake County address, according to an affidavit of probable cause out of Lake County. She advised that 28-year-old Gage Allen Carpenter punched her all over her body several times. At one point, he wrapped his hands around her throat and squeezed to the point where she could no longer speak but still breathe.

The victim and Carpenter had been in a relationship for about nine months, and they lived together at the residence off and on. While they were lying in bed, a verbal altercation began between the two. He escalated the situation to physical by grabbing her ankles and violently pulling her off the bed, the affidavit said.

Carpenter proceeded to punch the victim repeatedly all over her body and grab her throat. She had a visible bruise on her back, but due to the time lapse between incidents, she stated the rest may have healed. She advised that there were no witnesses to the physical altercation, but her husband, who lived in the main part of the residence, heard her being choked and hit, the affidavit said…
