Orange County commissioners discuss potential agreement with ICE

ORLANDO, Fla. — Orange County commissioners were scheduled to meet Tuesday morning to discuss the possibility of a future agreement with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Though it is still preliminary, commissioners like Kelly Martinez Semrad of Orange County District 5 have already expressed their concerns regarding the proposed agreement.

If the agreement were to be enacted, specially trained local law enforcement personnel would be allowed to perform some of the duties of an immigration officer — including the ability to arrest undocumented immigrants currently in custody on state and local charges, and transfer them to ICE…
