A Leesburg man was arrested on drug charges after deputies found methamphetamine and digital scales in his vehicle during a traffic stop.
A deputy observed the driver of a black passenger car with an inoperable tag light, later identified as 33-year-old Aaron Keith Powell, in the area of Thomas Avenue and Montclair Road at 9 p.m. Tuesday, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
The deputy tried to turn around to conduct a traffic stop, but before he could do so, the vehicle parked at a nearby business. A few moments later, he saw the same vehicle headed north on Thomas Avenue. It made a left turn onto Griffin Road, and the deputy was able to follow and eventually stop the vehicle, the report said.
Upon approaching the vehicle, the deputy immediately detected the distinct odor of unburnt marijuana coming from inside. Powell advised that he could not roll down the window due to damage to the vehicle. He instead agreed to open the passenger side door to communicate more clearly, the report said…
