Enjoying a quiet morning at Orlando Wetlands

A recent morning visit to the the Orlando Wetlands showed that things are quieting down after a very active early spring.

The big crowds that came daily to marvel at all the birds nesting or hatching have dissipated. Most of the newly-born birds have fledged or left, with only a few Wood Stork and Anhinga juveniles still hanging with their parents at the Cypress Dome.

Neither mom nor dad was around when I spotted a juvenile Black-crowned Night Heron sitting out in the brush. I did still a few straggling adult and juvenile Roseate Spoonbills flying around, but they’re probably gone by now…
