Mother jailed after allegedly lying to cops about stolen gun

A mother was arrested after falsely claiming that a stolen firearm found during her son’s arrest belonged to her.

On Wednesday afternoon, 50-year-old Denise Banks Forbes of Tallahassee went to the Clermont Police Department, located at 3600 S U.S. Hwy. 27, regarding the arrest of her son, according to an arrest report from the CPD.

The officer she spoke to was familiar with the case because he was the arresting officer for the charges. Her son was wanted on several charges by the Mascotte Police Department on Monday. The officer found him at a Walmart in Clermont and used a K-9 to sniff out narcotics in his gray Honda Accord, which was registered to Forbes, the report said.

His vehicle was searched, leading to the discovery of fake $100 bills and a firearm. The gun had been reported stolen from the Warner Robbins Police Department in Georgia. Speaking with the detective in that case, the officer learned that the theft had been by the fraudulent purchase of the firearm using fake $100 bills, the report said…
