Pei Wei and Starbucks Close Seemingly Overnight on Colonial Drive

A pair of high-traffic staples on East Colonial Drive have suddenly closed. Both Pei Wei Asian Kitchen and the neighboring Starbucks at 3011 E. Colonial Drive, next to Target, shut their doors with little warning and no official public announcements.

A sign posted on Pei Wei’s door confirms the closure and directs guests to their Altamonte Springs location, while teasing a new Lake Nona outpost opening later this year.

The adjacent Starbucks is also dark, with signage removed and no explanation on site. While the company hasn’t made a formal statement, a Reddit thread suggests the closure was abrupt and tied to changes in the lease agreement. One commenter, claiming to be a Starbucks employee, cited a rent hike and the end of the co-tenant arrangement with Pei Wei as possible factors. We have not yet independently verified those details.

Pei Wei has also been removed from several third-party platforms, including Uber Eats and Yelp, and its MapQuest listing now marks the location as permanently closed.
