Driver with history of traffic offenses caught driving with license suspended for DUI

An Orlando man with a history of traffic violations was arrested for driving with a license suspended for drunk driving.

An officer saw a dark GMC SUV turn onto County Road 466A from Micro Racetrack Road at 3:55 p.m. Wednesday, July 2, according to an arrest report from the Fruitland Park Police Department. He noticed the driver, 53-year-old Michael Nelson, was not wearing a seatbelt and stopped him around Miller Street and Sunny Court.

The officer asked Nelson for his license, which he stated he did not have with him. He saw Nelson try to hide his ID in his wallet and asked for it, too. This was when Nelson confirmed his license was suspended, the report said.

The officer went back to his patrol vehicle and ran Nelson’s license through a law enforcement database. He learned that Nelson’s license had been revoked on Aug. 22, 2021, for refusal to submit to a lawful test of breath, urine or blood. He had another revocation on Feb. 23, 2023, for DUI. He also had five prior convictions for driving with a suspended license, the report said…
