ORLANDO, Florida (KTUU) – A Pacific walrus rescued from Utqiagvik, Alaska, is now celebrating her first birthday at SeaWorld Orlando.
The young calf named Ukiaq, also known as “Uki,” translates to “autumn” in the Iñupiaq language.
Uki was found last year on the beaches of Utqiagvik injured, dehydrated and abandoned by her herd.
The calf received care from the Alaska SeaLife Center Wildlife Response Program. It was later determined that she would not be able to be released back into the wild on her own…
