Driver Claims Ignorance of Driving Restrictions Despite Prior Warning

DAVENPORT, Fla. – A routine traffic stop on I-4 eastbound near Davenport on Wednesday, July 16th, led to the arrest of an Apopka man who allegedly claimed he was unaware that a suspended driver’s license meant he couldn’t drive.

At approximately 11:58 a.m., Deputy Tirado of the Polk County Sheriff’s Office pulled over a white Ram pickup truck. The driver was identified as 57-year-old Wilfred Manuel Velez Cruz, residing in Apopka.

According to Deputy Tirado’s report, Mr. Velez Cruz admitted he did not possess a valid driver’s license, stating it had been suspended in April due to unpaid traffic citations. He further confessed that he was aware of the suspension, as a police officer had informed him of it just last month…
