Unlicensed driver from Venezuela arrested after traffic crash

A woman from Venezuela was arrested when a deputy discovered she did not have a driver’s license during a traffic crash investigation.

A deputy responded to a motor vehicle collision at Hardwood Marsh Road and Innovation Lane in Clermont at 6:20 a.m. Tuesday, according to an arrest report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. Upon arrival, he found 33-year-old Luisa Julia Rodriguez standing on the roadside next to her vehicle.

She advised that she was driving eastbound on Hartwood Marsh Road on her way to work. Traffic came to a stop so another vehicle could turn. She stopped, too, and was rear-ended, causing moderate damage, the report said.

While collecting the involved parties’ information, the deputy discovered Rodriguez did not have a driver’s license. He asked about her driving status in Venezuela, and she showed him what appeared to be an ID. She had been in the United States for about six months but had not tried to get a proper driver’s license, the report said…
