Orange County Animal Services slashes adoption fees and extends hours for one-day event

Orange County Animal Services (OCAS) is taking action to address the ongoing overcrowding crisis in shelters by hosting a one-day adoption event on Friday, August 8, 2025, with significantly reduced fees and extended hours.

For one day only, all adoption fees will be lowered to just $8, a steep discount from the typical rates. The shelter, located at 2769 Conroy Road in Orlando, will open its doors at 8 a.m. and remain open until 8 p.m., four hours longer than usual. This gives prospective adopters a full 12 hours to visit, interact with the animals, and hopefully make a match.

Animal shelters across Florida, including OCAS, are reporting critically high numbers of dogs in their care, placing additional strain on staff, resources, and the animals themselves. The extended hours and reduced fees aim to not only relieve pressure on the shelter but also give more residents an opportunity to meet the pets without the usual time constraints…
