City officials designated Sept. 15 through Oct. 15 as Hispanic Heritage Month in the city of Orlando, joining the nationwide recognition of the culture, traditions and contributions of Hispanic residents in both the city and the country.
The celebratory month will begin with an official proclamation of the month’s dedication at Orlando City Hall on Monday, Sept. 8, at 2 p.m., and will feature a concluding Hispanic Heritage Month Community Celebration at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts on Oct. 8.
An exclusive art exhibition will also open in the Terrace Gallery at City Hall on Wednesday, Sept. 17. The collection will feature artworks from 32 local artists inspired by the theme: “Collective Heritage: Honoring the Past, Inspiring the Future.” The display will be open until Nov. 2, and showcases “the importance of celebrating the deep cultural traditions that shape Hispanic identity while embracing the promise and creativity of future generations,” as written in a news release.
