SoDo Main Street Wins Federal Grant for Murals and Placemaking

SoDo Main Street District has been awarded funding from the federal Community Development Block Grant program, administered locally by the City of Orlando, to launch a series of beautification projects just south of downtown.

The grant will fund large-scale murals, banners, and other improvements aimed at boosting neighborhood pride and showcasing SoDo’s creative culture.

Highlights include:

  • Elizabeth Barenis (St. Petersburg): a water lily mural on the planter façade at Orlando Health, serving as a gateway into the district.
  • Christian Stanley (Orlando): a landmark mural at Kaley Avenue and Division Street.
  • Tatiana Khalil (Orlando): a bold mural at 315 W. Grant Street at the studio of Grammy-winning producer Ayo.

“These projects represent a meaningful investment in the future of SoDo,” said Misty Heath, Executive Director of SoDo Main Street. “Public art is more than beautification, it builds a sense of place, reflects the identity of our community, and makes our district more welcoming for residents, visitors, and businesses alike. We are grateful to the City of Orlando for helping us bring this vision to life through the CDBG program, and to our community partners for joining us in the effort.”
